Review of the book “História das ideias pedagógicas no Brasil”

Abstract

The book História das ideias pedagógicas no Brasil, written by Professor Dermeval Saviani and published by the publisher Autores Associados, is a broad and meticulous investigation into pedagogical concepts in Brazil and their development over time. This work conducted a review of this book. Initially, a brief description was made of the author's career and the process of elaborating the reviewed book. Then, the structure by which Saviani's work is organized was pointed out, as well as the ideas that guided the division of its parts. These parts correspond to different periods that house pedagogical ideas in the history of Brazilian education. For each of these periods defined in the work, an effort was made to interpret and extract the main thesis defended by the author; thus, synthesizing the content of the text História das ideias pedagógicas no Brasil. Finally, a critical evaluation is made of the relevance of the book to the field of education studies in Brazil and a recommendation is made to those who can benefit from its study.
