Abstract

This article intends to carry out a historical analysis of Art Education in Brazil, presenting the first movements to implement the teaching of the Arts in school education, reflecting on what were the main challenges encountered in this process and the struggles faced by Art Educators in search of awareness about the importance of art for human development. This theoretical investigation seeks to establish essential concepts for understanding this field of study, and is an interface with the research carried out on the Art Education project called Caravana Buriti – Arte Educação na Estrada founded in 2010, an educational itinerancy project idealized by Cia. Os Buriti, a group of Art Educators that proposes to develop new methodologies in Art Education. The project is aimed at public schools and works directly through shows and workshops, with children, teachers and the community.
