Abstract

The purpose of the text is to discuss secularism, religion and education and to understand how these categories are presented in official documents, such as the Basic Education Curriculum of the DF. That document expresses that religious education must be carried out in schools in accordance with the principles of a pluralistic, diverse and democratic education. Therefore, we highlight in our analysis: to what extent does the proposal of secularity of official documents present itself in Basic Education in the face of a still predominant Catholic culture and the increase of neo-Pentecostal influence? Documentary analysis was used, in addition to an analysis of the current Brazilian political context, to highlight as a result the historical dichotomy of the State between secularism and the power of hegemonic religious groups, represented in Christian beliefs.
