Abstract

This article examines the evolution of environmental education (EE) in Brazilian public schools, highlighting the influence of the National Environmental Education Policy and subsequent legislation. Through a bibliographic review and documentary analysis, the study analyzes how EE is integrated into school curricula, identifying implementation patterns, challenges faced, and successes achieved. The results reveal a variable adherence to EE practices, with significant advances in student awareness and engagement but also persistent barriers related to teacher training and curriculum integration. The study suggests that greater coordination between public policies and school practices could strengthen the implementation of EE, recommending strategies for more effective incorporation of environmental education into state and national education systems.
