Consolidating and innovating the editorial work at Revista Com Censo: management challenges of a scientific journal in Basic Education

The objective of this article is to present the results of a bibliographic and documentary research on Revista Com Censo: Estudos Educacionais do Distrito Federal (RCC), which also considers the authors’ experiential perspective, based on the principles of the action-research methodology. There is internal adversity between prioritizing pedagogical and academic aspects, resulting in a constant tension between consolidating and innovating the journal. This tension leads to a current operating context where it is examined, with analyses of categories related to the relevance of the journal, in order to highlight a set of urgent actions for the organizational and editorial improvement of the periodical. The final considerations outcome in a set of recommendations for managing the journal to achieve a viable balance between the challenges of: i) maintaining editorial and academic quality in its publications in Education; ii) maintaining and enhancing its institutional relevance among teachers and students – and their learning – in the public education network of the Federal District.
