Abstract

Scientific literacy is the process through which individuals gain the knowledge, understanding, and skills essential to engage critically with science and technology. Its promotion at school is extremely important for preparing students to understand the most diverse events in society and the environment in which they live; that is: scientific literacy favoring the development of more conscious and proactive citizens. In science teaching, carrying out practical activities that bring the content covered in school closer to everyday life can contribute to the formation of a scientifically literate individual. From this perspective, two science projects were developed with students in the 8th and 9th years of elementary school at a public school in the Federal District in order to promote scientific literacy and contribute to the citizenship training of students. In the first project, a vegetable garden based on the Agroforestry System was innovative, in which students participated in every moment of its implementation, from initial soil care to harvesting. In the second project, research work was carried out based on water quality bioindicators present in the tributaries of Ribeirão Sobradinho, in which students participated in field trips to collect data and bibliographical research on the importance of the watercourse. for your community. The results found demonstrated that the development of projects contributed to greater awareness and understanding of students about the natural environment and science.
