This paper is a critical reflection on the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools as a support for writing. The main question to be answered is whether AI systems, such as ChatGPT, can be unconditional allies in the writing process, especially academic writing. The scenario considered is that of researchers who wish to write academic and scientific texts, with a special focus on Artificial Intelligence in education. Two perspectives are presented, technological and educational, with a view to a critical analysis of the possibilities offered. It was identified that tools, such as ChatGPT, can be good allies as co-support mechanisms for production, favoring construction strategies, however, they still do not provide credible foundations for a really effective production, however these failures may be temporary and require supervision and follow-up by the original author.
