This work began during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to a training request from teachers at a primary school in the Public Education System of the Federal District.
At that time, classes were being held virtually and schools were preparing for a return to in-person teaching. During the enrollment process, the school met a transgender student whose legal guardians requested the use of their social name, leading to questions and uncertainties.
Upon offering this initial training, it became evident that the need expressed by this school could be shared by many others. The request for training made by this particular school may not occur in other spaces, resulting in violations and neglect of the rights of transgender children and adolescents.
Consequently, the pedagogical workshop titled "Knowledge that Transforms: Transgender Children and Adolescents in the Public Education System of the Federal District" was developed. The workshop was delivered to over 10 schools, as well as two Education Regional Offices, through the professionals of the Specialized Service for Learning Support and Educational Guidance.
