Agroforestry garden: sustainability and ecological literacy in school

In this work, we discuss the implementation of a school garden based on the agroforestry system at the Centro de Ensino Fundamental 09 in Sobradinho. Four 8th-grade students from the Elementary School participated in the project, who will eventually serve as monitors and extend the project to the entire school community. The objective of this project was to build a school garden with the agroforestry system as its foundation, aiming to promote sustainable education and contribute to the students' ecological literacy. The initial development of the project consisted of seven main stages: organizing the area, seeking expertise and researching the topic, acquiring materials, soil management, planting, monitoring plant growth, and harvesting. We noticed that many discussions have already taken place with the implementation of the garden, such as sustainability, agroforestry, the environment, innovation, healthy eating, soil, and plant nutrients. These discussions contribute to the students' ecological literacy.
