Sobradinho Stream is one of the most important rivers in the Federal District, but it is severely compromised by various factors such as improper waste disposal and sewage discharge. In this context, this project aims to foster environmental discussions by identifying bioindicators that allow the evaluation of the water quality in the stream. Four 9th-grade students from the Elementary School 09 in Sobradinho II participated in this research. The activity sparked interest in research and science communication. The students had an active learning experience, understanding the scientific method to address their questions throughout the process of creating and acquiring knowledge. Additionally, this initiative promotes the appreciation and preservation of water bodies, raising local environmental awareness and emphasizing the importance of environmental education to the population. The discussions and findings also highlight the need for public support in seeking ways to improve the maintenance of Sobradinho Stream.
